Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) August 30, 2010

An explosive expose of college graduation rates across the United States was released August 30, 2010 as students head back to college campuses nationwide. Gradrate.com has uncovered four year graduation rates as low as 1% at some on the nation’s largest colleges and universities. David Happe, founder of Minneapolis-based Blaze Your Own Path, Inc., created the web site GradRate.com to expose what has long been kept secret by college recruiters nationwide – nearly half of all college entrants never graduate. College and university graduation rates are as low as 1% at certain schools, as documented by the U.S. Department of Education. A full research report including the worst graduation rates by state has been posted at GradRate.com. The site also allows you to search the government data base for schools not listed in the GradRate.com Hall of Shame.

The United States government compiles both 4 and 6 year college graduation rate data, and is required to make the data available under the Freedom of Information Act. The Freedom of Information Act was enacted by Congress in 1966 to give the American public greater access to the Federal Government's records.

What started as a dad researching school graduation rates for his college bound daughter evolved into a full scale investigation as college graduation rates at many of the nation’s largest schools were discovered to be horrific. “As a parent, it is important for me to know that the investment our kids are making in their future has a realistic chance of garnering the anticipated results. ” said David Happe, founder of Blaze Your Own Path. “At a minimum, schools owe prospective college freshman and their parents full disclosure of graduation rate statistics, so they can make an informed decision as to whether or not their college of choice is capable of delivering the degree that their recruiters promise. We found graduation rates at some schools nationwide to be startlingly low, and others to be amazing and consistent with what you would expect. The best schools have graduation rates that exceed 75%. The worst of the schools are fleecing thousands of people annually out of hundreds of millions of dollars in tuition, while graduating less than 10% of enrolled students.”

A listing of the College Hall of Shame has been posted at www.GradRate.com, where you can also research graduation rates and other statistics for nearly every college and university in the United States.
